In general, it’s best to see a provider about your symptoms if you have a sore throat for more than 24 hours or if your pain is accompanied by difficulty breathing, a high fever, or blood in your saliva or mucus.
Fast Pace Health will begin with a physical exam that will include using a lighted instrument to look at the ears, nose, and throat. The local Provider will then palpate the neck to feel for swollen glands. The Provider will then listen to your heart and lungs with a stethoscope.
Fast Pace Health will use a simple test to determine if the sore throat is strep throat. They will use a sterile cotton swab to get a sample from the back of your throat. This test is a rapid antigen test and will produce results in a few minutes.
A more reliable test can also be performed called a throat culture. This test is sent to the lab for testing and the results return in 24 to 48 hours.
